Inner Peace

Inner Peace

None can deny, nor can anyone replace

The moments of repose found in a chair

The joys of simply staring into space

Are lovely as your lover’s lovely face

That serve to satisfy what is found there

That none deny, and nothing can replace

The unrepentent, looking for a place

Will find their stomachs empty, cupboards bare

Without the joys of staring into space

These bars of gold, these tablecloths of lace

Do not survive the contrasts of compare

That none deny, and so few can replace

A man might disappear without a trace

With silence on his lips, and not a prayer

And miss the joys of staring into space

Some find it not so easy to embrace

The nothing that is always lurking there

And fear the joys of staring into space

That few deny. And nothing can replace.
